At A Glance
The Northeast Kingdom of Vermont comprises the counties of Caledonia, Essex and Orleans and is located, as the name implies, in the northeastern area of the state. The tri-county region, at 2,054 square miles, accounts for just over 21 percent of the entire state. The Kingdom includes 71,315 acres of public state forest land and parks, 1,632 acres of public federal forest lands and parks, 37,575 acres of some of the most beautiful public lakes and ponds in the nation and 3,840 miles of public rivers and streams. The Kingdom also features 50 public boat launches on lakes throughout the region.
The Northeast Kingdom is the home of Jay Peak Resort, Burke Mountain Resort, Kingdom Trails, the Lamoille Valley Rail Trail, Catamount Arts, St. Johnsbury Athenaeum & Art Gallery, the Fairbanks Museum & Planetarium, the Old Stone House Museum, Maple Grove Farms of Vermont, the Dog Mountain - Home of Stephen Huneck Gallery, the Great Vermont Corn Maze and so much more. The region is also home to Vermont State University-Lyndon, the Community College of Vermont and many other stellar educational institutions.
